I have given up cops, lawyers, crime scene technicians and doctors. All I watch now are cartoons. In addition to the happily resurrected Futurama on Comedy Central, I also recommend the CN shows Chowder and Flapjack . But the best of the lot may be Adventure Time . At first I disliked it, but then I submitted fully to its goofy surrealism. It’s totally original and fascinating.
one terrible episode aside (the eye-phone one), the futurama revival has been pretty damned good. other than that my animation diet mostly consists of thomas the tank engine and the the adventures of a dog named kipper (who reminds me of pete a little, even though he (kipper) does not stuff stilton into his armpits)–both on a channel that may or may not be named sprout. if i try to watch anything else the 19 month old becomes very irate. on the non-animated front he allows me to watch stephen colbert but not jon stewart.
On the thread for Kick-Ass someone said that Ebert claimed the movie was morally reprehensible. That has stayed with me for a while for a few reasons. 1. It’s not. Kick-Ass was weak tea. 2. Ebert wrote the screenplay for Beyond the Valley of the Dolls. So come off it Roger. 3. Is there anything I find morally reprehensible? Well, not too damn much. Ex. I’m pretty excited about my new tourist motto: “What happens in Rwanda stays in Rwanda.” And Hipster Hitler is the funniest thing I’ve seen all week.
But there is one thing on Adult Swim that consistently startles me by its depravity, bad taste and, just maybe, moral reprehensibility. It’s Season Cinco of Tim and Eric Awesome Show, Great Job. It’s also the best dada tv show that I know of.
I can’t even bring myself to go into it right now. The pubic hair, the blood, the crows…
