Why doesn’t someone make a movie about Andrew?
Just kidding. But since many here know that particular Quiet American, I thought I’d point out that he got a Jazz Pick of the Week in this week’s LA Weekly.
you can read it here:

In the paper there’s a picture of Andrew – looking quiet – but it’s not on the web, because I am lazy. And not particularly good at my job.
wow, he’s compared to Charles Mingus and Eric Dolphy!
but I was surprised to learn that Los Angeles has an “idiosyncratic warmth”…really? I mistook it for a kind of corporate coldness, even dullness… but I could never live up to the hipness of the Weekly, which among other things, used to strive mightily to convince you that driving to a strip mall in West Covina for the best potstickers ever was an exciting thing to do.
anyway I knew andrew when he and I were just a couple of PhD schmucks at USC. Now he’s a jazz composer and I’m still a schmuck.
strangely, i thought i saw andrew walking along hoover today–thought it couldn’t be him because for some reason i was under the impression that he and daphne had left l.a a long time ago. i wonder if greg burk knows that andrew is a fan of barenaked ladies (no, not that kind michael) and tori amos.
I was under the impression that Arnab left L.A. a while ago. I’m so confused.
oh, right. i forgot to say–we’re in l.a for another week. sunhee just defended her dissertation. (she’s turning the final version in today.) we leave for delhi via singapore at the end of next week. my internet access will be somewhat spotty after that so you lot had better check your comments before posting them since i won’t be around as much to take edit requests.
mark, a drink maybe at some point?
Definitely! Though not at Hank’s…
I’ll email you my phone number – or drop me a line at home email.
We could go see Andrew and heckle him.
Travel safely.
